The town promises to be transformed with Criterium, gigs, busking, medieval activity, all focusing on many free events. The successful collaboration of the three major festivals staged in Clonmel in August – the Medieval Town Walls Festival, the Suir Valley Three Day Cycling Festival and the Clonmel Busking Festival celebrate Clonmel’s rich tapestry of culture, sport and music.
Suir Valley 3 Day International Cycle Race
Festival Cluain Meala opens on the Saturday, 5th August, Bank Holiday Weekend with the Suir Valley 3 Day International Cycle Race. Stages 1, 2 and 4 of the races start at 11am / 1pm from Kickham Barracks, Clonmel and finish in Clonmel, however the Cycling Festival’s Stage 1 finishes in the centre of Cahir on Saturday, 5th August at 15.45pm.
Stage 3 Clonmel Criterium takes place on Sunday, 6th August starting 6pm – 7pm from O’Connell St. Clonmel. The riders will negotiate a 1.7km circuit for 45min and 5 laps. This year’s circuit is more technically challenging and seriously fast. Stage 4 Monday, 7th August starts at 11am from Kickham Barracks and finishes at the top of the Nire.
Clonmel Busking Festival
Clonmel Busking Festival 2017 launches at Hotel Minella on Thursday, 10th August at 7.30pm, with the premier of a short film ‘William Crotty - The Highway Man’, along with a graphic novel by artist Eamon Cowan.
There will be a ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ performance in aid of Crumlin Children's Hospital with many more dance acts on the night by AOK-Dance (Ballet, Lyrical & Contemporary Ballet) , Synergy Dance Club (Hip Hop) , Kool School (Gymnastics) and more. There will also be musical acts performing on the night. All are welcome.
Friday 11thkicks off with busking on the streets and under the arches of the Main Guard. Also from 12pm till 3pm at Western Studio (St Luke's Hospital) Western Rd, will host an Open House full of art, music, food and a tour around Western Studio.
Saturday 12th August features the Busking Competition, held on the streets of Clonmel with a first prize of €1,000. Sunday, 13th August Family Fun Day Extravaganza will feature live music, Pop up Medieval Village, FREE IW Wrestling, Water Balling, Bouncy Castles, and much more. Over 120 gigs will be performing in pubs across Clonmel. Join the music trail of Rock, Indie, Country, Traditional and much, much more. Clonmel Medieval Festival
The Medieval Inn Trail returns on Friday, 11th August with a costumed tour of local Inns and plenty of merriment along the way. Register your interest at Tipperary County Museum on 07 61 06 5252 email@example.com and costumes will be available for hire on the night or you can bring your own, admission €10. Meeting at Tipperary County Museum, Mick Delahunty Square, Clonmel from 6pm and hitting the trail at 7pm sharp.
With Clonmel Busking Festival, Sunday, 13th August, Denis Burke Park will be transformed into a medieval village by Montague demonstrating the craft, cooking and lifestyle of the times, with lots of free medieval fun including Farrier, Archery, Combat School, Falconry, Coin minting. There will also be a ‘Big Dig’ in the Park, Bui Bolg Medieval Street Entertainers and Uncle Mikes Pet Show. Banna Cluain Meala will perform on the day.
