As and from 24th March 2017, all public libraries operate as a single shared system.
In the single shared system anyone with a valid public library card from any library authority in the country can reserve and borrow items from all library services in the country.
Items are collected and delivered between libraries on a twice-a-week basis, so once a reserved item is available it should arrive in your local library within a week.
Also, there is now no fee to join your local library, and under the new system you could check out a book from a library in Donegal, for example, and return it to your local branch at no cost.
Our library service do an amazing job, and their work deserves to be recognised and highlighted.
Tipperary County Council Library Service pride themselves on providing a countywide, inclusive service that is accessible by families, students, life long learners, older people and people with disabilities.
From newspapers to author visits, storytime to bookclubs, there really is something for everyone.
For those of you who can’t make it to the library, they have an online catalogue which allows members to search, request and renew books and a range of e-services to download at your leisure, as well as a huge FREE range of e-services including e-books, e-magazines, e-courses, e-languages.
Also, Tipperary Studies caters for local history and genealogy enthusiasts, providing a wealth of information and archives from their base in Thurles.
There are also a number of outreach services to Schools, Pre-schools , Nursing Homes, Day Care Centres and a Children’s Summer Book Bus.
Clonmel library also hosts regular Art Exhibitions and book launches, email enquiries are welcome.
http://www.borrowbooks.ie allows you to search across the catalogues of all public libraries in Ireland, if what you are looking for is not available in your local library. You are invited to search for a book, CD, DVD or etc. from the online catalogues of Irish public library authorities. If you locate the item in your own library service's catalogue, you can make an online request for the item to your library service. If you find it in another library service's catalogue, you can make a request to your own library service to obtain the item for you by completing the online booking form. The item will be delivered to your local branch and you will be notified once it has arrived. Please note that requests to other library services may take a little time to fulfil.
Your request will be sent directly to your library service and if you have queries relating to a request, you should contact your library service directly.
